Motivational Interviewing (MI) offers a set of communication tools anyone can use in their advocacy work, from lobby meetings to talking with your neighbors about CCL. These tools sidestep resistance, promote collaboration and lead others to make the case for change. This will be a hands on workshop with lots of time to practice your new approaches to working with people.

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on understanding what climate change means for people and the places where we live. She is a professor at Texas Tech University, she hosts the PBS digital series Global Weirding, and she has been named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People and Fortune’s 50 World’s Greatest Leaders.

Piper Christian is a Freshman at the University of Utah. She has volunteered for Citizens Climate Lobby since her sophomore year in high school. In 2018, Piper worked with CCL volunteers and students to pass a resolution through the Utah State Legislature which recognized the impacts of climate change and encouraged emissions reductions. She has spoken on youth panels, organized Utah’s first youth environmental summit in 2017, and gave a TEDx talk on climate change communication in 2016.

A renowned thought leader, international speaker, policy maker, community liaison, trainer, and facilitator, Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali serves as the Vice President of Environmental Justice, Climate, and Community Revitalization for the National Wildlife Federation. He is also the founder of Revitalization Strategies, a business focused on moving our most vulnerable communities from “surviving to thriving.” Before joining the National Wildlife Federation, Mustafa was the senior vice president for the Hip Hop Caucus, a national non-profit, non-partisan organization that connects the hip-hop community to the civic process to build power and create positive change. Previously, Mustafa worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 24 years.
