CCR Ep 23 Your Mental Health and Climate Change
Saturday Apr 28, 2018
Saturday Apr 28, 2018
How does climate change affect us psychologically? How do extreme weather events impact our mental health? What can we do to protect ourselves and our family from the mental health risks that come with extreme weather? How can climate advocates avoid being overwhelmed by the work and address the anxiety, the anger, and the despair? You will hear answers to these questions and much more on our latest episode.
Dr. Lise Van Susteren, a leading expert in looking at the psychological effects of climate change, and Dr. Natasha DeJarnett, a policy analysis in environmental health at the American Public Health Association, join show host, Peterson Toscano, for a thought-provoking and insightful conversation.

Artist Fritz Horstman talks about his trip to the Arctic Circle to take underwater photographs. The visual landscape of the frozen and thawing North captivated him, but the sounds really inspired him. He asked his fellow artists on the voyage to recreate the creaks and groans of the glaciers for his video, Ice Voices. Watch the video over on Vimeo

On FB you you encourage people engage in climate action and join your group. A friend of yours, let's call her Samantha, comments, "That's very noble of you, but really the only solution is going to be a technical one. It's gone too far and they are going to have to geoengineer a solution. Don't stress about it. They are working on a fix somewhere."
So what do you say to Samantha who believes geoengineering will solve all of our climate woes and we should just live our lives until the patch is available?

Amber Sullins | Citizens' Climate Lobby | April 2018 Monthly Speaker
Thursday Apr 19, 2018
Thursday Apr 19, 2018
With surveys showing a persistent gap between what scientists say about climate change and what the public thinks scientists believe, it’s clear that Americans need more exposure to the views of scientific experts. As Amber Sullins says, the only scientist most people hear from is the person who delivers the weather forecast every evening. That’s why the Phoenix meteorologist talks about climate change during her reports. Sullins, who holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Arizona in Tucson, joins our call to discuss how meteorologists are helping the public to connect the dots between climate change and our changing weather.

Citizens' Climate University: Living Room Conversations
Friday Mar 30, 2018
Friday Mar 30, 2018
Are you interested in building relationships with community members from different perspectives?
Joan Blades, founder of Living Room Conversations, leads a CCU workshop focused on how to host Living Room Conversations, an approach that increases understanding, reveals common ground and allow us to discuss possible solutions.
No fancy event or skilled facilitator is needed, and Joan specifically walk us through how to host a climate- or energy-oriented conversation with your own community's small group.
When people of all walks of life begin to care about one another, they can begin working together to solve the problems of our time and Living Room Conversations is a new tool in moving forward towards mutual understanding and respect.
