Citizens' Climate University: Campaign Season Activities
Friday Mar 23, 2018
Friday Mar 23, 2018
Join CCL's Senior Director of Government Affairs Ben Pendergrass in a webinar geared at providing tips, insights and resources available to someone in your group with an interest in building candidate relationships in the primary season.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby will always remain a nonpartisan organization, and given our unique position, we have the opportunity to connect with individual candidates from both sides of the aisle on the issue of climate change during this season of electoral primary campaigns. While being clear that we do not support or organize for individual candidates or political parties, our volunteer network still plays the essential role of providing insight to all candidates as to why our policy would be best for their constituents.
This webinar also features stories from CCL chapters that have effectively used the primary campaign season to build significant relationships with whomever may win the election.

Friday Mar 23, 2018
Friday Mar 23, 2018
Claire Vaye Watkins, author of the cli-fi novel, Gold Fame Citrus, is Peterson Toscano's special guest. Claire talks about her book and the importance of storytelling in this time of climate change.
With her writing and imagination, she allows herself to go to places many climate advocates avoid. In doing so, she raises important questions about our work and this critical time in history. Wise, insightful, and witty, hearing this interview will help you hone your own skills as a storyteller.
Art House
This month Claire Vaye Watkins is both our main guest and our Art House guest. Stay tuned for upcoming Art House episodes featuring artist, Fritz Horseman, and climate change-themed band, Hayride Casualties.
Puzzler
We share multiple responses to January's puzzler--which was really an accusation: What are you actually doing to address climate change? What does an climate advocate say when someone dismisses you as a hypocrite?
New Puzzler Question
On FB you you encouraged people engage in climate action and join your group. A friend of yours, let's call her Samantha, comments, "That's very noble of you, but really the only solution is going to be a technical one. It's gone too far and they are going to have to geo-engineer a solution. Don't stress about it. They are working on a fix somewhere."
So what do you say to Samantha who believes geoengineering will solve all of our climate woes and we should just live our lives until the patch is available?
Get back to Peterson by April, 15, 2018. You can email your answers to radio @ citizensclimate.org or leave a voicemail of 3 minutes or less at 570.483.8194. (+1 if calling from outside the USA.)

Dr. Joan Blades | Citizens' Climate Lobby | March 2018 Monthly Speaker
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
Joan Blades and her husband Wes Boyd co-founded the political action group MoveOn.org in 1997. In 2006, she co-founded MomsRising.org, dedicated to “bringing millions of people, who all share a common concern about the need to build a more family-friendly America, together as a non-partisan force.” Her latest project, Living Room Conversations, seeks to bridge the political divide in America by encouraging people with differing views to come together for respectful discussions. These conversations increase understanding, reveal common ground, and sometimes even allow us to discuss possible solutions.

Citizens' Climate University: Carbon Fee & Dividend Calculator
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
The Carbon Fee and Dividend Calculator is a easy-to-use online tool to estimate the financial outcome of the policy for an individual household under the first-year carbon dioxide fee of $15 per metric ton. It's a way to take the abstract statistical findings of the Household Impact Study down to the personal level.
Join Rick Knight, CCE's Research Coordinator and Ricky Bradley, CCL's IT Director as they walk through this CCL-created powerful new tool for all CCL volunteers.
To use the Calculator, you will need to be able to supply seven key pieces of information: number of adults in your household, number of children, annual household income (nearest $1,000), zip code, what type of car you drive, type of dwelling (house, apartment, etc.), and the type of home heating (electricity, natural gas, etc.). That information will allow the Calculator to compute your household dividend and make a "default" estimate of what the carbon fee will cost a typical household with those characteristics.
This tool is a handy way to answer questions from friends, family, interested parties at a tabling event or presentation, or potential supporters who need a clearer idea of how the Carbon Fee and Dividend works. It can be used to create case studies for households in a particular Congressional District or town and can also be used to find out how certain lifestyle change will affect your bottom line under our policy.
