Sunday Mar 17, 2019
Sunday Mar 17, 2019
For those who can’t attend live, we provide a pre-recorded version here. After attending CCL's informational session (https://cclusa.org/intro), this training is geared for new volunteers (and seasoned volunteers who want a refresher) to understand CCL's method and vision, and inspire you to find your role so you can hit the ground running. Building on CCL’s Informational Session, the Climate Advocate Workshop will focus on climate communication skills and lobbying. We’ll help you find your role so you can hit the ground running.
In this interactive workshop you will:
- Learn the basics of becoming an effective climate advocate through reviewing CCL’s structure, mission, purpose, and methodology of creating political will.
- Practice how to appeal to the best in others and build common ground.
- Learn how to build constructive relationships with elected representatives and practice our lobbying methods.
- Practice storytelling and a mock lobby meeting to put your new skills to use!

CC Radio Ep 32 Coal Miners Speak Out
Saturday Jan 26, 2019
Saturday Jan 26, 2019
Two coal miners from Appalachia open up about the risks and challenges of mining. Michael Ray Whitten from West Virginia and Nick Mullins from Kentucky come from families that have been mining for generations. They talk to show host, Peterson Toscano, about the physical toll mining had on their fathers. After seeing the damage to miners and to the land, they are now speaking out about the need to transition away from coal mining jobs. Dr. Nathasha DeJarnett from the National Environmental Health Association joins the conversation to talk about Black Lung Disease and the health risks miners in rural communities face. Listen in to this informative and moving discussion.
Art House
Inthe art house you will meet Michelle Irizarry. She a visual artist living in Orlando, Florida, USA. Michelle is is also a civil engineer. Puzzler
We also have answers to last month’s puzzler: What do you say your co-worker, Janet, wants nothing to do with your bipartisan climate group because it includes Conservatives? Two listeners share how they would address Janet’s fears and doubts.
New Puzzler Question
At a family gathering you are chatting with your cousin, Dan. You mention climate change and he has a meltdown. He says, “I feel so discouraged. All over the world you have leaders in Brazil, the US, and parts of Canada opposing any action on climate change. I hate to give up but maybe we just have to wait a couple of years before we can do anything about it.”
What do you say to Dan to help address this discouragement she has? If national leaders are not acting on climate change, what can we do?
Send your answers to Peterson by February 15, 2019. Leave your name, contact info, and where you are from.
You can email your answers to radio @ citizensclimate.org or leave a voicemail of 3 minutes or less at 518.595.9414. (+1 if calling from outside the USA.)

CCL: The Energy Innovation & Carbon Dividend Act Reintroduced
Thursday Jan 24, 2019
Thursday Jan 24, 2019
On January 24, 2019, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act was reintroduced into Congress by Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL-22), and original cosponsors Reps. Francis Rooney (R-FL-19), Judy Chu (D-CA-27), Charlie Crist (D-FL-13), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA-18), Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D-IL-3), and Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA-52).
Join CCL's Mark Reynolds, Madeleine Para, and Danny Richter in a webinar that celebrates this achievement, reviews the basic framework of the bill, and highlights what CCL is calling on volunteers to do today, tomorrow, and over the next few weeks to help now that a bill introduced.
Outline (skip forward to times listed):
Review of the Bill's Basic Framework (starts at 2:12)
What Happens This Year (starts at 8:42)
Review of Actions & Next Steps (starts at 15:45)
Mark Wraps up (starts at 23:55).
This historic bipartisan legislation would enact carbon fee and dividend into law when passed, and is the result of the hard work and support of thousands of CCL volunteers over many years. The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019 incorporates the most important provisions of carbon fee and dividend: a fee on carbon emissions at the source that starts at $15 per ton and goes up $10 per year, and a full dividend allocated to households. There are also a few provisions that have been added that are not in our proposal.
